Dhoni to move with posse of female guards

RANCHI: India's ODI skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is now well and truly in the big league. For, no longer is the "privilege" of being watched over by female guards the preserve of the odd royalty and, even more spectacularly, the Libyan strongman, Col Muammar Gaddafi. Mahi, routinely mobbed by a legion of admirers, now has a posse of women cops to protect him in Ranchi.

Dhoni, who has a particularly hysterical female following, now runs the risk of becoming the darling of women constables deployed to escort him and shoo away girls trying to hug and fall over him.

For constables of the Jharkhand Armed Police, lady luck couldn't have flashed a more winsome smile. Fresh from training, they were delighted to learn that their first assignment was to escort Dhoni wherever he went. Blushing and giggling, they were a welcome departure from the usual grim-faced constables purveying Dhoni's Mecon colony bungalow.

"It's certainly an enviable assignment," gushed one of the woman cops, smart enough to avoid revealing her name, "especially since many of our colleagues are usually assigned to escort politicians."

Constables of the Jharkhand Armed Police have been entrusted with the task of escorting Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

"He (Dhoni) hasn't come out of his house since morning," a constable said. Another said: "We are the police, we are only doing our duty — whether it's Dhoni or Mayawati," said one. Dhoni is still known to shudder when reminded of a Kolkata fan, Shiuli, a young woman who dived at him from the stands at the Eden Gardens trying to hug him. "Ever since, I've stopped looking directly at girls," Dhoni tells his friends.

"The women constables have been deployed partly by chance and more by design," laughed Ranchi SP M S Bhatia, adding women cops would be in a better position to deal with fan trouble like the one in Kolkata.

Jharkhand government has given Dhoni Z-category security for his star status and unconfirmed threat perception from the Maoists.

"Although we do not discriminate on the basis of gender between our constables, in Dhoni's case, women cops have been specially trained to ward off unwanted overtures from female fans," Bhatia said.

Actress Celina Jaitely may not have too many hits to her credit, but with two foreign productions in hand the Bollywood beauty says that the "whole world" knows her!

The former Miss India even compares her career with that of the gorgeous Madhuri Dixit.

"Nobody knew Madhuri Dixit before Ek Do Teen, though she had done films before she did the song," Celina said.

"But the whole world knows Celina Jaitley, I have a glamorous and sexy image. People recognise me all over the world," the actress remarked.

Asked about her ever-increasing glamour quotient, she said: "I must have done a good job and that is the reason why I'm famous for my glamorous image. I have thousands of fans all over the world. People like the way I act and this image has given me a lot.

"There are many actors who've done multiple roles but still suffer from an identity crisis and, on the contrary, I need bodyguards all the time because of my status," added Celina.

So isn't she afraid of being typecast as a sex symbol?

"My job is to give the audience what they like and I do that. It's been four and a half years in the industry and I have achieved a lot."

Celina has now joined the item song bandwagon too. She is set to sizzle in Balaji Motion Picture's C Kkompany opposite Tusshar Kapoor.

"I am doing this item song because I have called the shots here and nobody else has. It is a Punjabi song and I always wanted to do a Punjabi number because my dad is a Punjabi.

"Also Tusshar is a very good friend and I'm very close to Balaji (Productions)," she added.

And is the actress dating anybody? "Celina Jaitley is not in a relationship. She is in a relationship only with her career which is a great love-affair," she quipped.

Celina has been roped in for 15 projects that will keep her busy until next year. Apart from C Kkompany, she also has two foreign productions by Ken Khan - Love has no Language and The Quest of Sheherzade.

Her Bollywood list also includes Hello Darling, Golmaal Returns, Paying Guest, Chai Garam, Sunil Darshan's untitled project, two projects with Ashtavinayak productions and a Punjabi film.

Pitt Jolie newborn are already millionaires

Melbourne (ANI): They may be just a day old, but Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's twins are already worth 11 million dollars, what with a paper shelving out that kind of money for their first picture. The Tomb Raider actress delivered a boy named Knox Leon and a girl called Vivienne Marcheline yesterday at a maternity clinic in Nice on the French Riviera.

And the golden couple of Hollywood has already sold the first photograph of the baby celebrities to a US paper for a whopping 11 million US dollars. Gynaecologist Michel Sussmann said that 33-year-old actress and the twins were in the pink of health. "Everything went smoothly. The children are doing very well, the mother is doing very well and the father is doing very well, The Daily Telegraph quoted Sussmann, as telling AFP.

Though Pitt had already attended the birth by caesarean of their daughter Shiloh, Sussman said that he "was very calm and was not at all disturbed by the operation. When the babies arrived he was very euphoric and Jolie had a "blinding smile." Both Pitt and Jolie top the list of highest paid Hollywood stars, making 10-20 million dollars a film.

For the second year in a row, Miss USA has fallen down during the evening gown competition at the Miss Universe competition. It was a nightmare come true for Miss USA Crystle Stewart, a Texan, who tripped on the train of her bejeweled evening gown as she made her entrance.

During the 2007 Miss Universe contest in Mexico City, Miss USA Rachel Smith also tumbled during the evening gown competition and became an unintended star on YouTube, where the video was shown over and over again.

Top ten contestants announced

The finalists walked across the stage in bikinis for the swimsuit competition and the excitement was spectacular when the top 10 contestants were announced.

The top ten finalists are: Dayana Mendoza (Venezuela), Zana Krasniqi (Kosovo), Elisa Najera (Mexico), Laura Dundovic (Australia), Marianne Cruz Gonzalez (Dominican Republic), Claudia Ferraris (Italy), Taliana Vargas (Colombia), Vera Krasova (Russia), Crystle Stewart (USA) and Claudia Moro (Spain).

After narrowing to 10 contestants, the show will move to evening gowns, with the smiling hopefuls walking across the stage to music. From there, five contestants will be eliminated, and the judges will choose the winner from the five remaining.

The field is reduced to 15 semi-finalists, including: Dayana Mendoza (Venezuela), Zana Krasniqi (Kosovo), Elisa Najera (Mexico), Lam Thuy Nguyen (Vietnam), Tansey Coetzee (South Africa), Laura Dundovic (Australia), Hiroko Mima (Japan), Marianne Cruz Gonzalez (Dominican Republic), Claudia Ferraris (Italy), Taliana Vargas (Colombia), Vera Krasova (Russia), Jazmin Dammak (Hungary), Eliska Buckova (Czech Republic), Crystle Stewart (USA) and Claudia Moro (Spain).

The 80 contestants gathered in the seaside city of Nha Trang, Vietnam, vying to succeed reigning Miss Universe Riyo Mori of Japan.

Miss Universe 2008: Curtain raiser!

Gates of Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa, Vietnam have opened, and hundreds rather thousands of people are thronging the venue while millions across the world have already tuned in to their TV sets to watch eighty of the world’s most beautiful women battle it out for the hot spot – the Miss Universe 2008 crown.

The show is hosted by Jerry Springer as well as former Spice Girl Mel B. The judges panel comprises of Donald Trump Jr., (executive vice president of the Trump Organization); Roberto Cavalli (fashion designer and entrepreneur); Nadine Velazquez (international cover girl); Jennifer Hawkins (television presenter and Miss Universe 2004); Louis Licari (celebrity colorist and “Today Show” ambush makeover expert) and John Nguyen (vice chairman of Hoan Cau, LTD Investment and Construction).

I have an international agent who mailed my details and they thought I was qualified to judge the show. I’m sure I’m going to have a rocking time!”

Apart from the beauties sashaying down the ramp, the pageant promises a power-packed performance by sensational pop star Lady GaGa on her hit number ‘Just Dance’. The thud has rocked several venues around the world and is expected to bring the same excitement to Vietnam.

In a few hours, Miss Universe 2007 Riyo Mori will hand over the exquisite crown to her successor. The Top 15 finalists will be judged in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown, and interview during the broadcast. She’s had a successful transition from the big screen to Reality TV, and Denise Richards was looking the small screen star as she was spotted leaving her Midtown Manhattan hotel yesterday (July 13).

Attending to business matters while in the Big Apple, Miss Richards was dressed to impress in a belted red dress with a pair of unique primary-colored heels and a red handbag.

The “It’s Complicated” starlet has recently been fielding a litany of complaints from her neighbors due to the increased traffic and paparazzi presence in her neighborhood as a result of her hit show.

Another sore spot - Denise’s constantly increasing collection of pets. One angry neighbor told press, “This is a gated community, not a zoo.” And the complaints have gotten so bad that the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care & Control have insisted that Richards must obtain a kennel license for her 14 dogs.

She spent the whole weekend chilling out with her family and shopping with Ashley Tisdale. But earlier today, Miley Cyrus was back on the set of her new “Hannah Montana” movie.

Filming a scene on Beverly Hills’ Rodeo Drive, Miss Cyrus looked hot in a multi-tiered pink ruffly dress with a floral print jacket and a pair of amazing high heels with pink socks.

And from the look of it, the scene was an imitation of Miley’s usual real-life routine with paparazzi swarming around her everywhere she goes.

Perhaps a distracting day at work was just what the “Hannah Montana” actress needed to help her forget about the ongoing steamy picture scandal that once again reared its ugly head over the weekend.

It has been a huge hit Stateside, and now Lucy Liu is taking Kung Fu Panda to adults and children alike in the land of the rising sun - Japan!

The “Charlie’s Angels” babe joined costar Jack Black at the Japanese premiere, looking flawless in a ruffly gold dress complete with a thick black belt and matching gold heels.

Lucy recently told press that she enjoyed working on “Panda,” especially since she wasn’t actually on-camera. “I loved it. It was nice not having to go through hair and make-up and wardrobe. I could just focus on my intention for where I wanted to take this character.”

Taking a break from her Project Runway duties, Heidi Klum teamed up with Victoria’s Secret makeup artist Linda Hay for a little film session in NYC on Monday (July 14).

The always-lovely German supermodel showed up early in the morning at the Victoria’s Secret in Herald Square, quickly getting to work on a TV segment for the lingerie giant’s Beauty’s VS Makeup Collection.

As for Project Runway, Miss Klum has been making final preparations - as her hit show returns for its fifth season on Bravo this Wednesday (July 16) at 9pm ET/PT.

Talking about the new season, Heidi recently told press: “I feel as though we set the bar higher every season. Taking a short breather from her work on “Hannah Montana: The Movie”, Miley Cyrus was spotted spending a little quality time with grandma on the Rodeo Drive set in Beverly Hills on Monday (July 14).

After chatting it up for awhile, it was back to filming for Miley - as the Disney tween queen teamed up with co-star Vanessa Williams for their continuing shopping scene shoot.

Despite just having more “racy” photos of herself released on the Web, Miley continued to live up to her smiley reputation - sporting a big grin on her face most of the morning while Miss Williams kept busy busting out a few dance moves for the camera.

As previously reported by Gossip Girls, Miss Cyrus’ new family comedy finds “Miley Stewart, at the urging of her father, taking a trip to her hometown of Crowley Corners, Tennessee, to get some perspective on what matters in life the most.” The film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2009.

Back home and situated following their weekend trip to Lake Tahoe, expecting parents Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz headed out for a baby check-up at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills on Monday (July 14).

Following their appointment with the doctor, the pregnant “Pieces Of Me” singer and her Fall Out Boy rocker hubby walked out to their car hand-in-hand, with Pete then wandering off and covering his face up with a large envelope.

After dropping his blossoming bride off at home, Wentz then headed off to spend some quality time with his little sister Hillary.

The tattooed twosome first ran over to visit with mutual friends before making their way to Ren-Mar Studios, which happens to be the filming spot of hit shows ranging from “I Love Lucy” to “Lizzie McGuire”.

The Dark Knight’s Star-Studded NYC Premiere

With the normally red carpet turned funeral black in honor of late actor Heath Ledger, the New York City premiere of “The Dark Knight” turned out to be quite the star studded affair.

Held at AMC Loews Lincoln Center on Monday evening (July 14), the movie’s stars Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman and Maggie Gyllenhaal were joined by Hollywood guests ranging from Blake Lively and Lauren Conrad to Emile Hirsch and Edie Falco.

And with Heath’s role as The Joker receiving rave reviews, the “Brokeback Mountain” actor’s co-stars have had nothing but praise for their fallen friend.

“He was wonderful. He was talented beyond belief,” said Bale, who plays Batman in the movie. “His immersion in the character was a greatly satisfying thing to work opposite.”

Maggie Gyllenhaal, who plays attorney Rachel Dawes in “The Dark Knight”, added: “He did something that is difficult even for every great actor. It’s still very unusual to hit a stride that is so free that you can really do no wrong. There’s no way to judge what he did. He was absolutely free.”

“I would love to be right here with him. And I thought I would be,” Bale added.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Eager To Advise Obama

California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has sparked reports he will join U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's group of advisers - after publicly offering his interest in counseling the potential world leader.

The Austrian-American movie star - who entered California-state office in 2003 as a Republican - admits he would be open to advising Obama, despite the pair's political polarities. And Schwarzenegger insists when it comes to questions surrounding energy or the environment, he would "take his (Obama's) call".

He says, "(I) was always ready to help in any way I can the United States, because, as you know, I've committed myself to be a public servant, because this country has given me everything. I'd take his call now and I'd take his call when he's President, anytime."
