Nokia launches 6210 Navigator in India news

Bangalore: Nokia has launched the new 6210 Navigator in India, the company's first GPS-enabled handset with an integrated in-map compass. The 6210 Navigator was introduced in the Mobile World Congress 2008 in Barcelona in February 2008

The phone features a 2.4 inch screen and value additions include a real-time voice and visual turn by turn guidance using in-built GPS support, optimised one-box map search, 2D/3D and night mode map views, flash and video recording.

The 6210 Navigator uses the Nokia Maps 2.0 application and comes pre-loaded with maps of 8 cities in India including Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Delhi. The handset is priced at Rs18,000, and comes with the maps, free for six months, the company said.

The device also features a 3.2 megapixel camera, MP3 player and stereo FM radio. The Nokia 6210 Navigator is based on S60 software, enabling users to download and use thousands of new applications in addition to the ones already found on the device. The phone has 128MB of internal memory and additional space can be add on a card to its microSD slot.

Speaking on the occasion of the launch, Nokia India's director-marketing Devinder Kishore stated that market reserach indicated that mobile users especially in metros with a constantly changing skyline and road diversion, wanted navigational aids on mobiles after messaging and net connectivity.

''The maps have been approved by the Surveyor General of India and an outsourced provider would keep updating them. The compass on the maps enables users to walk and explore,'' said Kishore.

Nokia plans to add maps of more cities in the near future, he added.

David Still Cooking on Album Release

There's a lot to be said for the company you keep, which is no doubt why reigning American Idol champ David Cook has opted to team up with a Grammy-winning producer for his forthcoming solo album.

Joining an already rock-credentialed roster of talent that has lended a hand on Cook's untitled album, due sometime this November, is producer Rob Cavallo, whose résumé boasts collaborations with Green Day, Kid Rock, Eric Clapton, My Chemical Romance, Goo Goo Dolls and the Dave Matthews Band.

Cook has been recording and cowriting tracks for the album in between stops on the American Idols Live! Tour, which wraps up Sept. 13 in Tulsa. Last month, he told Billboard he already had seven tracks prepared and was looking to build up to 20, choosing among those which would make it on the album.

In addition to Cavallo, Cook has worked with Collective Soul's Ed Roland and Our Lady Peace's Raine Maida, among others.

While no specific release date, save for the month, has been announced for Cook's debut, what is for sure is that this fall will mark yet another battle of the Davids, with Cook and Idol runner-up David Archuleta expected to drop their albums on the same day.

Dhoni conferred with Khel Ratna

New Delhi, (PTI) India's one-day and Twenty20 skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was today conferred with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, making him only the second cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar to be bestowed the country's highest sporting honour.
An expert committee, chaired by Milkha Singh, today met here to discuss the nominees and they chose Dhoni for the award leading India to the Twenty20 World Cup triumph.

Hailing the decision, BCCI President Sharad Pawar said Dhoni is a deserving winner as he has shown exemplary leadership to become an icon for millions.

"Dhoni has been declared the recipient of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, the country's most prestigious sports award.

"He has represented the country with distinction, and deserves the honour," Pawar said in the statement.

"His exemplary leadership and demeanour under pressure, especially in the ICC World Twenty20 and the tri-series in Australia, mark him out as the ideal role model for millions of young Indians who want to make a mark in life," he added.

Meanwhile, BCCI Chief Administrative Officer Ratnakar Shetty also lauded the decision.

"On two occasions, we felt let down when Rahul Dravid didn't get Khel Ratna and Yuvraj (Singh) was denied Arjuna. Dravid was in good form, we had won 16 ODIs on the trot and the team was on a high -- still he did not get the award. PTI
