Sixth Pay Commission: No differences with armed forces: Antony

Sixth Pay Commission: No differences with armed forces: Antony

“Issue being examined”

NEW DELHI: Defence Minister A. K. Antony on Wednesday denied differences between the Government and the armed forces over the Sixth Pay Commission’s pay scales. “There is no difference between the government and the services, because they are also part of the government. Don’t read too much,”

Mr. Antony told journalists on the sidelines of the Defence Accounts Day function here.

He said the services chiefs had “noted some problems and anomalies” in the government order on pay hike which is “but natural” and the issue was being examined at an appropriate level.

Services chiefs had recently ventilated the tremendous dissatisfaction in the armed forces over the pay scales for some middle and senior officers besides revised pensionary benefits.

The ‘other ranks’ had earlier quietly accepted the revised special pay for military services which was less than that recommended by the services.

Sixth Pay Commission: Wheels of India: Maruti gears up to woo govt staff

Sixth Pay Commission: Wheels of India: Maruti gears up to woo govt staff

2 Oct, 2008

MUMBAI: The country’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, is planning to grab a part of the windfall gain to be received by the government employees.

It has launched a marketing campaign—Wheels of India—to reach 5.5-mn government employees who would shortly get handsome arrears, thanks to the recommendation of the Six Pay Commission. It has asked dealers to appoint four-member teams to start the campaign to woo government employees.

“Our institutional sales officers will work with dealers in state capitals to reach the government employees,” said a Maruti official. “We have seen buying interest from employees who work as gardeners, clerks and nurses, something that can be achieved by enhanced inter-personal communication only.”

“We believe that this is a good time to reach government employees who have benefited from the implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission’s recommendations,” the official said, adding : “This is a long-term promotional strategy as we expect the same for state and public sector employees also.”

Maruti has a history of working closely with its dealers to reach its target audience and market its cars. The company had recently organised promotional camps in Bhel townships to engage with the families of the government employees.

“Affordability is not the only factor that influences the purchasing decision. Research has shown that families of many of these government staff do not feel the need to own a car. It is with such customers that a deeper marketing and a personal touch base go a long way in facilitating sales,” the official said.

Sixth pay Commission: Allowances to special forces may be hiked

Sixth pay Commission: Allowances to special forces may be hiked

New Delhi, Oct. 1: The government is likely to increase "substantially" the allowances given to paramilitary force personnel to bring the amount "at par" with the armed forces. The allowances will be raised in the next 60 days, BSF director-general M.L. Kumawat said on Wednesday after taking over the new charge of chief of the border guarding force.

Mr Kumawat, who continues to hold the post of special secretary (internal security) in the home ministry, said that the paramilitary forces, who perform similar duties like the Army and are deployed in tough areas on the border besides countering left-wing extremism in various states, were not happy with the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission. He said that the grievances have been taken up with the Centre and the home ministry and the finance ministry were working to raise the allowances in the next two months.

"We will have the allowances of our men raised substantially in the next 60 days. We are trying to bring it on par with the personnel of the armed forces," Mr Kumawat said.

Equating the BSF with the Army, Mr Kumawat said, "Our men do similar work like any other Army person. They guard the border to fight terrorism and Naxalism. They need to be given allowances."

Sixth Central Pay Commission: Armed forces to get revised pay from November

New Delhi, Oct 1 (PTI) The 1.5-million personnel of the armed forces will not be a happy lot this festive season, as their revised pay scales are expected to be paid only in November.
They will take home, salaries under the old pay scales this month, but would get a part of the 40 per cent arrears under the 6th Central Pay Commission (CPC) that would bring some cheer before Eid, being celebrated tomorrow, and Diwali later this month.

The defence personnel's 3.5 million civilian counterparts would go home with lot of plans to celebrate, as they got an increased pay under the new scales this month.

The new CPC scales came into retrospective effect from January 1, 2006.

The government has already announced that it would paid out a part amount of the 40 per cent arrears to the armed forces, following the forces submitting their CPC salary vouchers.

The defence chiefs had accepted the new "discriminatory" pay scales, after prolonged protest by refusing to implement the Cabinet decision, with Defence Minister A K Antony talking to Navy chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta, IAF chief Air Chief Marshal F H Major and Army chief General Deepak Kapoor.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also set up a three-member ministerial committee headed by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, with Antony and Finance Minister P Chidambaram as members, to consider the defence personnel's pay-related grievances. PTI

Sixth Pay Commission: Pay review committee set up for IIT, IIM faculty

Sixth Pay Commission: Pay review committee set up for IIT, IIM faculty

2 Oct 2008

NEW DELHI: The faculty members of central technical institutions like IITs and IIMs can hope for a better pay package soon with the government setting up a committee for review of their salary and emoluments.

The committee is headed by former director of Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore, Prof Govardhan Mehta.

"The committee will make a comprehensive study of the 6th Pay Commission recommendations. It will speak to the faculty members of the IITs, IIMs, IIITs and NITs and consider their views and recommend an ideal pay package for the faculty members in these institutions," a senior official in HRD Ministry said.

The committee has been given three months time to complete the report, so that the government could implement it before the general elections.

The committee will look into the recommendations of Prof G K Chadha committee, which has been set up to recommend pay structure of university teachers. The Chadha committee is expected to submit its report to the University Grants Commission next week.

"The committee will have to address the major issue of retention of teachers and attracting more scholars to join teaching and research at these premier institutes," the official said.

The committee is set up at a time when the government has decided to expand the technical educational institutions in a big way. The government has decided to set up eight IITs, seven IIMs, 20 IIITs and six NITs across the country. Some of these institutions have already started functioning from this year.

Kidnap Review

Kidnap Review

Movie: Kidnap; Star Cast: Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan, Minissha Lamba, Vidya Malvade, Rahul Dev and Reema Lagoo; Director: Sanjay Gadhvi; Rating: *1/2

The movie starts in a different manner unlike others, which depicts the suffering of the hero in his jail tenure in forms of sketches. By seeing that one comes to know how much the poor chap had suffered and is filled with utmost hatred with the person who had put him behind the bars.

The movie has the same old stuffs with the same old storyline. There is nothing new or interesting in Kidnap to watch. It has the same zest as we saw in the movie ‘Zinda’. It has the same old revenge seeking formula. One does something wrong in childhood and repents for it later in his adulthood. The tag line, “Bachpan ki karne, aur Jawani mein bharni” surely goes the way.

The theme of the movie is clearly understood by its name; ‘Kidnap’. The plot revolves around a girl named Sonia (Minissha Lamba) who lives with her mother, Mallika (Vidya Malvade) because when she was ten years old her parents got divorced. Few days prior to her birthday, she gets kidnapped by Kabir Sharma (Imran Khan).

The kidnapper is interested in talking only to her father, Vikrant Raina (Sanjay Dutt) who is filthy rich, with whom the kidnapper has to settle some old dues.

Vikrant has to follow a particular set of rules laid by the kidnapper in order to free his daughter. The twist is that the kidnapper gives Vikrant clues in will help him get closer to his daughter.

The movie kick-starts with a song which dares to bare Minissha in bikinis and two pieces. All throughout the movie one gets to see for the first time – Minissha Lamba in her sexy and seductive avatar. The clues which are given by Imran are good and is obediently followed by Sanjay Dutt. Though one finds some mistakes in it too. Sanjay owns cash worth $51 Billion. Imran tells Sanjay to reach Panvel station at a given time to find the clue to which Sanjay says it is not possible in such a peak time. Imran then tells him to fly and come but Sanjay (please note again: $51 billion owner) cannot afford a helicopter (it seems) and instead robs other people’s cars and bikes to reach his destination.

We get to see some very some very strange bonding and emotional conversations between the Minissha and Sanjay when they get to see each other (both handcuffed)
It seems that Minissha had been offered the role in this movie only to expose (which she did a little too much). The interesting part is that one gets to see Minissha in all the more revealing clothes after she is been kidnapped (who on Earth will do that); and that did attract Imran towards her.

The movie did have some good camera work. The sequence shot in the jail was worth praise.

Talking about the characters in the movie; Sanjay was impressive. Imran played his character well and fitted into the role. He did prove he is a typical ‘Khan’ and has a long way to go. Vidya too was worth a watch. Minissha gave a direct message to actresses who have revealed and gained praises that she is no less and as surely joined the queue.
The music of the film is strictly ok, apart from a few songs like Mit Jaaye, Hey Ya, Mausam. The action sequence is good specially Imran jumping phenomenon.

Sanjay Gadhvi has not at all done justice to his work and small mistakes are in plenty. We expected more of quality work from him.

First half of the movie is tolerable but the second half irritates you to the core. It can be clearly felt that the movie is being dragged without a point. All in the entire movie fails to grab an attention and has in no sense done justice to the hypes created.
