Guy Ritchie: Says, "Marriage to Madonna is fine"

Film director Guy Ritchie, who is in Southern California for promoting his new movie "RocknRolla", has broken his silence over reports that his marriage to Madonna is in trouble. He insisted everything is fine.

In an interview, the British director Guy Ritchie told, "My marriage is fine as far as I'm aware of".

Rumours have been circulating for months that Ritchie's 8 year marriage to Madonna is on the rocks.

Pop superstar Madonna has also come under fire for the rumours and the allegation of Alex Rodriguez's estranged wife that she has an "affair of the heart" with Rodriguez.

The 39 year old Guy Ritchie, who found fame with his 1998 movie "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels", said that Madonna has allowed him to look at his hometown of London with fresh eyes.

Guy Ritchie said, "I live vicariously through my wife, so I was once a spy and now I've become a tourist, and it's much more fun to live in London as a tourist than it is as a spy. Someone told me the definition was a spy always looks for the bad stuff, and a tourist always looks for the good stuff. So that makes it easy, being married to an American".

Guy Ritchie's recent efforts, "Swept Away" starring Madonna, and "Revolver" were both critically panned. His next movie is "Sherlock Holmes", a drama based on the English literary detective.

Teach India: 100 and still counting

When the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) made it mandatory for schools across India to have a laboratory for mathematics in 2006, many considered it an innovative move. In the 100-mark maths question paper, the practical lab exam now gets 20 marks in CBSE schools.

This has put one man in Ahmedabad on top of the world. He is 100-year-old mathematics professor, Annaswamy Ranganath Rao, who pioneered the concept of maths labs, which CBSE took up 32 years later. He even set up one at Vikram Sarabhai Community Science Centre (VSCSC) in Ahmedabad in 1974. "I taught maths for 33 years; I realised the method of teaching the subject in schools was defective. Maths, like philosophy, is an abstract subject. Unlike physics, chemistry or biology, one does not learn maths in a lab and this makes it difficult," says Rao.

Born in Jakkasamudram in Salem district of Tamil Nadu and educated in Wilson College in Mumbai, Rao came to Bahauddin College in Junagadh in 1933 where he spent 27 years. In 1974, eight years after retiring as principal of a Bhavnagar college, he made it his mission to popularise maths and make its learning a playful and enjoyable experience.

"For a maths lab, I had to create physical models that explained various theorems and equations. This meant I had to innovate," says Rao, who has created over 200 models, teaching aids and puzzles that make the otherwise incomprehensible Pythogoras Theorem, Gaussian Curve, quadratic equations, Ramanujan's number and other aspects of geometry, easy to understand.

Models and puzzles, he feels, make a student think. "It is important that the brain is used as an activity room, not just a store-room," says Rao. At home, he is constantly seen creating puzzles and problems using a slate and pen. But he is not satisfied getting just one solution, and keeps working till he finds seven or eight solutions to a single problem. He has compiled all these puzzles in a book, 'Brain Sharpeners'.

At 100, he is pursuing his mission with the same zeal. Everyday, he takes an autorickshaw to VSCSC where his students, mostly maths teachers in schools and colleges, eagerly await him. He does not remember how many people have learnt this method of teaching maths but he does keep track of the number of schools and colleges that have introduced the concept of mathematics labs.

"The maths laboratory has been Rao saheb's most important contribution to mathematics in India. People across India were impressed by this concept; he has ben invited to Chennai and Shillong and NCERT headquarters in Delhi to instruct local mathematicians in setting up such laboratories," says Arun Vaidya, a retired professor of mathematics in Ahmedabad who still sees himself as a disciple of Rao.

Rao still traverses the length and breadth of the state to deliver lectures on maths at various conferences and workshops. His perseverance has been recognised by the Indian government's department of science and technology, which has decided to nominate him for UNESCO's prestigious Kalinga Prize for popularising science. If he bags it, Rao will be in the same league as Bertrand Russell, David Attenborough, Arthur C Clarke and others who have won this prize.

The Triple Threat 7.27.08: The 101st Edition - D'Lo Brown, The Great American Bash, CM Punk and More!

We are back from vacation and better than ever. We talk about D'Lo Brown, The Great American Bash, and the booking of CM Punk. Are superstar highlight is a man who will shock the world! He is none other than Sting! Come inside!

The Triple Threat is back once again. We are back from vacation and ready to go. I am postponing the top ten best matches since the Triple Threat's existence piece this week because we didn't have time to discuss what are number nine pick was since we were all out of town. This week we talk about the Bash, D'Lo and our superstar highlight is Sting. Please enjoy.

Topic # 1 D‘Lo Brown made his return on RAW this past Monday on RAW. What are your thoughts on his return?

David Martell: I am not going to lie, it is good to see D'Lo back. He actually looks like he's in pretty good shape and he is a good addition to the mid card on RAW. The only problem I have with him, is that he is just another face on RAW. RAW needs more heels! He will probably do the normal returning star spiel, squash match after squash match until they figure out what to do with him. Thinking about it, I might have even liked it more if he was on ECW. He could feud with Mark Henry and bring back some old flames. It might not be the best match up but it would be quite interesting. Anyways, it is good to see him back and I hope he has a good run the second time around.

Alex Mattis: You're lookin' at the real deal now! I had read that B-Lo had been working dark matches and such, and that he may be making I return. But I still marked out on Monday night. D-Lo was one of my favorite wrestlers during the Attitude era, and I think he may rival Cowboy Bob Orton for being injured the longest period of time with the oh' so damaged chest. I always thought that Brown was very underrated and hope that he gets a good spot upon his return.

Zach Brown: I was really shocked when they brought back D'Lo Brown on RAW. I thought D'Lo was going to be stuck doing dark matches for the rest of his career, or rarely making any sort of appearance on TV much like Val Venis. But maybe they're actually giving the guy some time and possibly a feud with Santino, and that's actually something I'd be interested in. Even though the match was pretty short, it looked like D'Lo is still pretty talented in the ring. I don't know how over he would get these days, but I'd be interested to see him in a few mid-card storylines. Just as long as they don't replace him with Rodney Mack again. Ugh.

Topic # 2 ECW has a brand new ECW Title Belt. What do you think about the new look?

David Martell: I actually like the new ECW Title belt. I was never to fond of the old belt. Actually I thought the old belt was pretty damn ugly. I understand it has history behind it but lets face it, the old ECW is dead and we are stuck with the new ECW. I like how the belt is all silver. I don't know, it just looks more prestigious and less kiddy in my opinion. It is sad that Mark Henry is the first man to hold that belt but lets hope that he doesn't hold it for that long.

Alex Mattis: Who is designing this new line of E belts? A fuckin' 5 year old? The spinner belt, the God awful Divas title, and now this 3D ECW title... what is the deal? Oh how far the E has gone from the great looking belts like the IC title of the early 90's, European title, and of course the WWF eagle belt. I guess the E thinks this is updating with the times, but just one look at the big gold belt will show that you don't need a bunch of zazz to have a fantastic title.

Zach Brown: Well ECW now has the second best looking belt in WWE. It actually looks like the belt means something. The old belt looked way too small, and there's really no reason for ECW to have a belt that's smaller in size compared to the other two brands. However, the giant "ECW" letters on the belt make it look a little stupid. I mean why don't we have the other belts say RAW and SMACKDOWN right across the front? I mean yeah, it's the ECW title, but they could have concentrated more on the design of the belt instead of the giant letters. But really, it's not a bad belt design. Anytime I see a slightly mediocre belt, I always think "At least it's not that God-awful spinner belt." And by the way, whoever designed the new "Divas" belt needs to get out of the biz IMMEDIATELY.

Topic # 3 What are your thoughts on The Great American Bash?

David Martell: I actually thought the card for the Bash was actually decent but obviously it didn't live up to what it could have been. I didn't get to watch it myself but I heard it was pretty much uneventful. I did hear that the HBK vs. Jericho match was very good. I like how it ended in an MMA type finish. It shows how ruthless Jericho is. For the first time in a long time it seems that Jericho is actually a threat. This storyline is the best this year by far and I can't wait to see where it goes. I was surprised that Edge and Edge won the tag belts and yes I mean Hawkins and Ryder. I never thought the WWE would invest to much in these guys but I guess there giving them the ball in the "Tag Team Division." Matt Hardy also lost the belt to Shelton. I thought this was a good move. After all the US Title is meant to be on Smackdown. Matt Hardy is moving on to bigger and better things, if you want to call it that. Other then that there's nothing really there to note. Everything else just seems to be there. Nothing real special out of this one folks.

Alex Mattis: Eh. Wasn't great, but wasn't as crappy as the GAB has come to be known. I was not at all happy to see Hawkins and Ryder win the tag straps, how long do you expect these guys to have the belts? I was glad to see Shelton get the US title, still the mid-card gate keeper. COLIN DELANEY TURNS HEEL!!!! Who cares. Jeri and HBK delivered another show stealing match, it wasn't quite as good as I was expecting and I didn't care for the MMA-like ending but I'm sure their grand showdown is still to come probably at SummerSlam. Michelle McCool has improved greatly as a wrestler and looking great in her winning the "Divas" title. Punk cut an excellent promo before the match, but his contest with Batista was average at best. The ending was awful and turned the whole match sour. The JBL-Cena parking lot brawl was fun. The fire spot wasn't needed, but the match was fun. Props to both men as they both went through some brutal spots. Especially Cena for taking that final bump. I didn't see much of the main event but what I did see was solid and the crowd has hot for it. The ending was pulled off well. It seems Trips may be holding onto the strap for awhile.

Zach Brown: I didn't really like this year's Great American Bash. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't exactly good either. The Cena/JBL match was terrible. It seemed way too staged and it just made me roll my eyes the entire time. And who the hell booked Hawkins and Ryder to win the tag belts? Worst tag team booking in history maybe? Miz and Morrison are light years ahead of Hawkins and Ryder. Talk about some bland talent. I also wasn't too thrilled when Nattie Neidhart didn't win the Divas title. I mean yeah, it's a terrible looking belt, but she's a great wrestler, and I think she's more talented than Michelle McCool. In other news, Colin Delaney turned on Tommy Dreamer. Don't care. However, I was really happy for Shelton to win the US Title. That was one of the few highlights of the night. Another high point was Jericho vs. HBK. It was a pretty good match, but this feud is so good that it's hard not to like anything that they put out there. CM Punk vs. Batista had a disappointing match, but the match itself was alright. And Triple H beating Edge was the surprise win of the decade. Not. I could care less about Triple H and Edge. Overall, the night was a C- at best.

Topic # 4 How do you feel about the way CM Punk is getting booked as the World Champion?

David Martell: I haven't been real impressed on how the E is booking Punk. They are not making Punk the main attraction. He seems to still be overshadowed by Cena, JBL, and Batista. I don't understand how the night he wins the title they make him look like a big deal and he ends the show looking like a dominate champion and the next few weeks he is just another part of the show. He is looking like a paper champ right now. I hope who ever he faces at Summerslam he beats clean without any interference. He needs a big win to reestablish himself as the TOP guy on RAW. Will this happen? Who knows but CM Punk really needs some good booking to make he seem like a dominate champ.

Alex Mattis: I hate the way this is being pulled off, but quite frankly I should have expected this. Punk hasn't looked good at any point of his title reign, in my opinion, and his match with JBL at SummerSlam will determine if his title reign is going to mean anything at all. He's cut some great promos since wining the title, but he wasn't won clean or his matches end with a DQ or something lame. This could just be past of a greater plan, but for the time being I'm not digging the way Punk is being booked.

Zach Brown: I'm actually pretty upset at how WWE has been booking CM Punk. I'm glad he has the title, but they're making him look as weak as possible. Granted, he went over JBL on his first night, but with Batista, he can't seem to get a clean win to save his life. It was Double DQ at The Great American Bash, and on RAW, Kane came out and chokeslammed Batista before the match. So even if Punk did win, it was because Batista was attacked before the match. But he didn't even win that match. And he took a spinebuster, and the crowd popped for it. Boo. Batista needs to hurry up and turn heel because they're making the champ look way too weak, and he doesn't have enough of the crowd behind him. Even when JBL and Batista were cutting that promo on RAW last week, it seemed like CM Punk was a side note in the conversation. If CM Punk gets a Rey Mysterio-esque title reign (losing every match except title matches), I'll be pretty mad at WWE's booking.

Topic # 5 What are your thoughts on WWE programming going PG?

David Martell: Ugh…this looks like bad news. If you want to make interesting storylines you are going to need a higher rating then PG. Who ever said that WWE was for kids? I get what they want to do but their main demographic is young adults and teens. I understand that they want more people watching but to me all this looks like one big epic fail.

Alex Mattis: Could the E be cleaning up their product? Let's hope so. Because the less smut on the program, the less over the top angles and more focus on the wrestling. This could be a very positive thing for the company. Keep the weekly programming at PG, save the TV-14 content for your PPVs. I look forward to see if the E ditches some of the material that has given them a negative image to the main stream public.

Zach Brown: Whatever happened to the edge of WWE programming? Stone Cold giving the finger and wrestlers saying "Kiss my Ass" or "Bullshit" were a staple of WWE for God knows how long. Even Cena's retarded "Ruck Fules" hat was pretty edgy. Now they're going TV-PG? Kids are already a huge part of the wrestling audience, so I don't understand why they would tone down the themes or language. I should have seen it coming when I saw Cena write "JBL is poopy." This could come back to bite WWE though. If they make it too kiddy and tame, it could alienate their adult audience. If this change affects the ratings in any negative way, we probably won't see PG WWE for very long.

David Martell: Sting is what you would call a living legend. He is the biggest superstar to never wrestling in a WWE ring and believe me he takes pride in that. He is one of the biggest stars of the 80's, 90's and today and he just keeps on going. I have liked Sting since I was a kid I even had a picture of him right next to one of Hogan. To bad we will probably never see him in the E. There are so many matches I would love to see and number one would be against the Undertaker. Sometimes I feel like he's wasting his time over in TNA. I cant wait till the day that WWE releases a best of Sting DVD. To bad we will probably have to wait till after sting hangs up his boots. I definitely wouldn't be surprised if he ended up in the WWE Hall of Fame one day. Either way, I am glad he is still going and I hope that he continues to impress.

Alex Mattis: One of the greatest of all time. I don't know how anyone could argue that. I have been a life long fan of Sting and to think day will watch anything with him in it. I could go on all night and day about what this man has done in the past, all the great matches he has had, all the great promos he has cut, etc. But looking to today, Sting has been nothing but good since coming into TNA, well his titles reigns could be argued as being unnecessary but Sting has been positive for the company. He has had some great matches, put over talent, and just helped the company move forward. The Icon has to be bound for the Hall Of Fame, and I hope the E doesn't exclude him. When all is said and done I hope the E also puts out a DVD set of Sting similar to the ones they did on Flair and Hart. I think the end to this amazing career may be coming, but even at this stage of his life Sting still "has it."

Zach Brown: Sting is one of my favorite wrestlers of all time. In professional wrestling, it's nearly impossible to get famous and never work for Vince McMahon. But Sting accomplished that, and he's still one of the best talents in wrestling history. Sting was phenomenal back in the WCW days. His character was great, and I would mark out so hard for the Stinger Splash or the Scorpion Deathlock. I don't know how, but he made a simple move like a splash into something that fans looked forward to in every match he had. And when he returned to wrestling with TNA, I was so excited for him to be back. He clearly hadn't lost any of his talent from WCW. I mean the guy is 49 and he's still one of the best wrestlers in the business. He definitely does for TNA what The Undertaker does for WWE. There have been so many wrestlers that have been mentioned as being too old to wrestle, or they're over the hill, or that they don't have the talent that they used to have when they were younger. And Sting isn't mentioned within any of those categories. Throughout his career, Sting has always been a cut above. It will be a sad day when he retires, but until that day, I hope he can keep delivering the way he has been in TNA.

Triple H

Paul Michael Levesque (born July 27, 1969) is a French-American professional wrestler and actor, better known by his ring name Triple H, an abbreviation of his former ring name Hunter Hearst Helmsley. He currently wrestles for the SmackDown brand of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), where he is the reigning WWE Champion.

Before joining WWE, Levesque began his wrestling career with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1993, wrestling under the ring name Terra Ryzing.[1] He changed his ring name to Jean-Paul Lévesque before joining the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1995.[2] His initial on-screen persona was that of wealthy sophisticate Hunter Hearst Helmsley. He later changed his name to Triple H and adopted an alternative image in the group D-Generation X (DX), a stable. After the dissolution of DX, Triple H was pushed as a main-event wrestler, winning several singles championships.[3] As part of a storyline, the scripted events in wrestling, Triple H married Stephanie McMahon, who later became his real-life spouse. In 2003, Triple H formed another stable known as Evolution,[3] and in 2006, briefly reformed DX with Shawn Michaels.[8]

Overall, Triple H is a twelve-time world champion: a seven-time and current WWE Champion, and a five-time World Heavyweight Champion.[9][10] In addition, he won the 1997 King of the Ring, the 2002 Royal Rumble, and was the second Grand Slam Champion.

Outside wrestling, Levesque has made numerous guest appearances in film and on television. He is starring in the WWE Film, Journey of Death, which is due to release in 2009.[11]

Early life and career
Paul Levesque was born in Nashua, New Hampshire. In his youth, Levesque was a fan of professional wrestling and his favorite wrestler was Ric Flair.[2][4] He became aware of bodybuilding at the age of fourteen, and after graduating from high school in 1987, he entered several body building competitions. He was crowned Teenage Mr. New Hampshire at the age of nineteen. During this time, he met Ted Arcidi and began to consider a career in professional wrestling.[4]

Levesque enrolled at Killer Kowalski's wrestling school in 1992 after it was recommended to him by Arcidi.[1][4] He joined the Independent Wrestling Federation (IWF), which used trainees from Kowalski's school in their promotion. Here, Levesque became the IWF Heavyweight Champion and started using the name Terra Ryzing.[1]

Professional wrestling

World Championship Wrestling
In early 1994, Levesque signed a one year contract with World Championship Wrestling (WCW)[4][12]. In his first televised match, he wrestled as a heel and defeated Brian Armstrong .[2] He continued using the name Terra Ryzing until mid-1994, when he was renamed Jean-Paul Lévesque.[2][13] This gimmick referred to his surname's French origins and he was asked to speak with a French accent, as he could not speak French.[14] During this time, he began using his finisher, The Pedigree.

Lévesque had a brief storyline feud with Alex Wright that culminated at Starrcade.[2] Between late 1994 and early 1995, Lévesque briefly teamed with Lord Steven Regal, whose snobby British persona was a good match with Lévesque's similar persona.[13] The team was short-lived, however, as Lévesque left for the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in January 1995 after WCW shot down his request to be pushed as a singles competitor.[1][13][14]

World Wrestling Federation/Entertainment

The Connecticut Blueblood (1995–1997)

Hunter Hearst Helmsley in 1996.As a continuation of his gimmick in WCW, Triple H started off his WWF career as the Connecticut Blueblood, Hunter Hearst Helmsley.[14] He appeared in taped vignettes, in which he talked about how to use proper etiquette, up until his wrestling debut on the April 30, 1995 episode of WWF Wrestling Challenge.[15]

Although he was heavily pushed in the first few months after his debut, his career stalled during 1996, starting off with being mired in a feud with Duke "The Dumpster" Droese following a loss in the Free For All at the 1996 Royal Rumble.[16][17] Up until that event, his angle included appearing on television each week with a different female valet.[2] Sable was his valet at WrestleMania XII, and after his loss to Ultimate Warrior, as part of the storyline, he took his aggressions out on her. The debuting Marc Mero came to her rescue, starting a feud between the two wrestlers.[18]

On May 28, 1996, Triple H appeared on WWF Superstars against Marty Garner.[19] When Helmsley attempted to use the Pedigree, Garner mistook the maneuver for a double underhook suplex and tried to jump up with the move, causing him to land squarely on top of his head and suffer neck damage.[19] Garner sued the WWF, eventually settling out of court and later discussed the incident in an appearance on The Montel Williams Show.

The MSG Incident.Helmsley was known backstage as one of the members of The Kliq, a group of wrestlers including Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, Sean Waltman and Scott Hall, who were known for influencing Vince McMahon and the WWF Creative team.[16] Helmsley was in line to win the 1996 King of the Ring tournament, but he was demoted from championship contender to jobber to the stars after the Madison Square Garden Incident, in which the Kliq broke character after a match to say goodbye to the departing Nash and Hall.[20][21]

Despite the punishment, Helmsley did have several successes following the MSG Incident. He found a manager in Mr. Perfect and was booked to win his first Intercontinental Championship on October 21, 1996, defeating Marc Mero.[20][22] When Mr. Perfect left the WWF, his departure was explained to be a result of Helmsley turning his back on his manager as soon as he won the Intercontinental Championship. He held the belt for nearly four months before dropping it to Rocky Maivia on the February 13, 1997 special edition of Monday Night Raw, called Thursday Raw Thursday.[23] For a very brief time, Helmsley was accompanied by Mr. Hughes, who was his storyline bodyguard.[24] After losing the Intercontinental title, he feuded with Goldust, defeating him at WrestleMania 13.[25] During their feud, Chyna debuted as his new bodyguard and assaulted Goldust's wife and valet Marlena.

D-Generation X (1997–1999)
Main article: D-Generation X
Helmsley's push resumed in 1997, when he won the King of the Ring tournament on June 8 by defeating Mankind in the finals.[20][26] Later that year, Shawn Michaels, Helmsley, Chyna and Rick Rude formed D-Generation X (DX). This stable later became known for pushing the envelope, as Michaels and Helmsley made risqué promos—spawning the catchphrase "Suck It", using a "crotch chop" hand motion,[27] and sarcastically deriding Bret Hart and Canada. By that point, Helmsley had fully dropped the "blueblood snob" gimmick, appearing in T-shirts and leather. During this period, his ring name was shortened to simply Triple H.[20] Even after the DX versus Hart Foundation storyline ended when Bret, Jim Neidhart, and Davey Boy Smith defected to WCW, Helmsley continued to feud with the sole remaining member Owen Hart over the WWF European Championship. This culminated in a match between the two at WrestleMania XIV, with the stipulation that Chyna had to be handcuffed to then-Commissioner Sgt. Slaughter. Helmsley won after Chyna threw powder into Slaughter's eyes, momentarily "blinding" him and allowing her to interfere in the match.

After WrestleMania, Michaels was forced into temporary retirement due to a legitimate back injury sustained at the Royal Rumble,[28] and on-screen, Triple H took over the leadership position in DX,[20] claiming that his now-former associate had "dropped the ball". He introduced the returning X-Pac the night after WrestleMania and joined forces with the New Age Outlaws ("Bad Ass" Billy Gunn and "Road Dogg" Jesse James).[20][29] Triple H led the "DX Army" throughout 1998, spawning a series of vignettes in which the DX army "invaded" the CNN Building and WCW Offices in Atlanta, culminating in the group nearly crashing an episode of Nitro in Virginia. It was also during this time that Triple H began a feud with the leader of the Nation of Domination and rising WWF heel, The Rock. This storyline rivalry eventually led to a feud over The Rock's Intercontinental Championship, which Triple H won in a Ladder match at SummerSlam.[30] He did not hold the title long, however, as he was sidelined with a legitimate knee injury. When The Rock won the WWF Championship at the Survivor Series,[31] the rivalry between the two continued, as DX fought Vince McMahon's Corporation stable, of which The Rock was the main star. Triple H received a shot at the WWF Championship on the January 25, 1999 edition of Raw in an "I Quit" match against The Rock, but the match ended when Triple H was forced to quit or see his aide Chyna chokeslammed by Kane. This began a new angle for Triple H, as Chyna betrayed him by attacking him after the match and joining the Corporation.[32]

As part of the storyline, at WrestleMania XV, Triple H wrestled as a face for the last time in several months when he beat Kane with the aid of Chyna, who was thought to have rejoined DX. Later on in the night, he betrayed his long-time friend and fellow DX member X-Pac by helping Shane McMahon retain the European Championship.[33] Triple H and Chyna then joined the Corporation, briefly placing them on the same side as The Rock. Unable to get along, The Rock turned on the Corporation and took Triple H's place as a crowd favorite. After Triple H's heel turn in early 1999, he moved away from his "DX" look, taping his fists for matches, sporting new and shorter wrestling trunks, and adopting a shorter hairstyle. His gimmick changed as he fought to earn a WWF title shot. After numerous failed attempts at winning the championship, Triple H and Mankind challenged WWF Champion Stone Cold Steve Austin at SummerSlam in a Triple Threat match, which featured Jesse "The Body" Ventura as the special guest referee. Mankind was booked to win the match by pinning Austin, becoming a three-time WWF champion.[34] The following night on Raw, however, Triple H defeated Mankind to win his first WWF Championship.[35]

Triple H dropped the WWF Championship to Vince McMahon on the September 16, 1999 edition of SmackDown! before regaining it at Unforgiven in a Six-Pack Challenge that included Davey Boy Smith, Big Show, Kane, The Rock, and Mankind. He defeated Stone Cold Steve Austin at No Mercy before dropping the title to The Big Show at Survivor Series.

McMahon-Helmsley Era (2000–2001)

Triple H signaling to the crowdBy January 2000, already a three-time WWF champion, Triple H had dubbed himself "The Game," implying that he was at the top of the wrestling world, and was nicknamed "The Cerebral Assassin" by Jim Ross. His storyline feud with Vince McMahon continued, with McMahon winning the title from Triple H during an episode of SmackDown!.[36] As a result of the feud, an angle with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon began which carried the WWF throughout the next seventeen months; this period was known as the "McMahon-Helmsley Era".[37]

Triple H feuded with Mick Foley in early 2000 in a storyline that ended with a Hell in a Cell match at No Way Out that sent Foley into retirement.[38] Triple H pinned The Rock at WrestleMania 2000 to retain the title,[39] but lost it at April's Backlash to The Rock.[40] He regained it three weeks later, in an Iron Man match at Judgment Day,[41] only to lose it back to The Rock at King of the Ring.[42] Hunter then entered into a storyline feud with Chris Jericho, which culminated in a Last Man Standing match at Fully Loaded.[42]

A later storyline feud between Triple H and Steve Austin started when it emerged that Triple H had paid off Rikishi to run down Austin at Survivor Series, causing him to take a year off action. In reality, Austin's previous neck injuries started bothering him again, forcing him to have surgery. In 2000, Triple H and Austin had a match at Survivor Series that ended when Triple H tried to trick Austin into coming into the parking lot to run him over again, only to have Austin lift his car up with a forklift and flip the car onto its roof 10 feet high. Triple H returned a few weeks later and attacked Austin. The feud continued into 2001 and culminated in a Three Stages of Hell match in which Helmsley defeated Austin. In 2001, Triple H also feuded with The Undertaker, who defeated him at WrestleMania X-Seven.[43] He later teamed with his former nemesis Austin to form The Two-Man Power Trip, capturing both the WWF Tag Team Championship and the Intercontinental Championship (twice) by the end of the next pay-per-view.

During the May 21, 2001 broadcast of Raw, he suffered a legitimate and career-threatening injury.[2] In the night's main event, he and Steve Austin were defending the Tag Team title against Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit. At one point, Jericho had Austin trapped in the Walls of Jericho submission hold. Triple H ran-in to break it up, but just as he did, he suffered a tear in his left quadriceps muscle,[2] causing it to come completely off the bone.[4] Despite his inability to place any weight on his leg, Triple H was able to complete the match.[4] He even allowed Jericho to put him in the Walls of Jericho, a move that places considerable stress on the quadriceps. The tear required an operation, which was performed by orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. This injury brought an abrupt end to the McMahon-Helmsley Era, as the rigorous rehabilitation process kept Triple H out of action for over eight months,[2][4] completely missing the Invasion storyline of WCW/ECW.

Return from injury (2002)

Triple H after winning the Undisputed Championship at WrestleMania X8Triple H returned to Raw as a crowd favorite on January 7, 2002 at Madison Square Garden.[4] He was booked to win that year's Royal Rumble to receive a WWF Undisputed Championship match in the main event at WrestleMania X8.[44] At WrestleMania X8, Triple H beat Chris Jericho for the WWF Undisputed Championship.[2][44] After holding the title for a month, Helmsley dropped it to Hulk Hogan at Backlash.[44] Triple H then became exclusive to the SmackDown! roster due to the WWF Draft Lottery and continued to feud with Jericho, culminating in a Hell in a Cell match at Judgment Day.

In the interim, between the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania, the McMahon-Helmsley era was brought to an official on-screen conclusion. By the time he returned, Triple H's on-screen marriage to Stephanie McMahon was on the rocks, so Stephanie faked a pregnancy in order to get him back on her side.[45] When he learned that it was fake, he dumped her publicly on Raw when they were supposed to renew their wedding vows.[45] Stephanie aligned with Jericho afterward,[45] but she was forced to leave action after losing a triple threat on Raw the night after WrestleMania when she was pinned by Triple H.[46] The divorce, and thus the storyline, was finalized at Vengeance.[47]

Meanwhile, Triple H's old D-Generation X companion Shawn Michaels had made his return to WWF and joined the New World Order (nWo), and Michaels and Kevin Nash planned to bring Triple H over to Raw in order to put him into the group. Vince McMahon, however, disbanded the nWo following several backstage complications and brought in Eric Bischoff as the Raw brand's new General manager. One of Bischoff's first intentions was to follow up on the nWo's plan and woo Triple H over to the Raw roster. Triple H did indeed jump over to the Raw brand, reuniting with Shawn Michaels, but on July 22, he turned on Michaels by performing a Pedigree on him during what was supposed to be a DX reunion. The following week, as part of the storyline, Triple H smashed Michaels' face into a car window to prove that Michaels was "weak". These events led to the beginning of a long storyline rivalry between the former partners and an eventual "Unsanctioned Street Fight" at SummerSlam, in which Michaels came out of retirement to win. Afterwards, however, Triple H attacked him with a sledgehammer, and Michaels was carried out of the ring.[48]

Before September 2, 2002, WWE recognized only one champion for both the Raw and SmackDown! brands. After SummerSlam, champion Brock Lesnar signed a storyline deal to become exclusive to SmackDown!, leaving Raw without a champion. Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff then awarded the World Heavyweight Championship to Triple H in the form of the old WCW Championship belt.[49] Triple H then received a push by having numerous successful title defenses, but he eventually dropped the belt to Shawn Michaels in the first ever Elimination Chamber match at Survivor Series.[50] He regained the title from Michaels a month later in a Three Stages of Hell match at Armageddon.[50]

Evolution (2003–2005)
Main article: Evolution

Triple H as the World Heavyweight Champion. In January 2003, Triple H formed a stable known as Evolution with Ric Flair, Randy Orton, and Batista. The group was pushed on Raw from 2003 to 2004, the height of their dominance occurring after Armageddon when every member of Evolution left the pay-per-view holding a title.[51] Triple H held the World Heavyweight Championship for most of 2003. At the 2004 Royal Rumble, Triple H and Shawn Michaels fought in a Last Man Standing match to a double countout, so Triple H retained the title.[51] Triple H dropped the title to Chris Benoit at WrestleMania XX,[52] and he was unable to reclaim the belt from Benoit in subsequent rematches, including a rematch of the WrestleMania main event between Triple H, Benoit, and Shawn Michaels at Backlash.[52]

He then ended his angle with Michaels, defeating him in a Hell in a Cell match at Bad Blood.[52] After another failed attempt, losing to Benoit at Vengeance, he focused on Eugene, beating him at SummerSlam.[53] Triple H then regained the title from former associate Randy Orton at Unforgiven.[54] Following a triple threat World title defense against Benoit and Edge on the November 29, 2004 episode of Raw, the World Heavyweight Championship became vacant for the first time.[55] At New Year's Revolution, Triple H won the Elimination Chamber to begin his tenth world title reign.[56] At WrestleMania 21, Triple H lost the championship to Batista,[57] and subsequently lost two rematches at consecutive Raw pay-per-views: Backlash and Vengeance.[58][59] Following this, Triple H took some time off from wrestling, suffering from minor neck problems.[60]

Triple H returned to Raw on October 3, 2005 as part of WWE Homecoming. He teamed up with Flair to defeat Chris Masters and Carlito. After the match, as part of his new storyline, Triple H turned on Flair with his sledgehammer, sparking a feud between the duo.[61] They met in a Steel cage match at Taboo Tuesday for Flair's Intercontinental Championship, a match that Flair won.[62] Subsequently, Triple H defeated Flair in a non-title Last Man Standing match at Survivor Series to end their feud.[62]

D-Generation X revival (2006–2007)
Main article: D-Generation X revival

DX doing their signature poseAlthough Triple H failed to win the Royal Rumble match at Royal Rumble in January 2006 to earn a title shot, another championship opportunity arose for Triple H in the Road to WrestleMania Tournament. He won the tournament, granting him a match for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 22. At WrestleMania, Triple H and John Cena fought in the main event for the title, which Triple H lost via submission.[63] Later that month at Backlash, Triple H was involved in another WWE Championship match, fighting Edge and Cena in a Triple Threat match, where he lost again. In an act of frustration, a bloodied Triple H used his sledgehammer to attack, in storyline, both Edge and Cena and then performed a number of DX crotch chops.[64] Triple H unsuccessfully attempted to win the WWE title from Cena on numerous occasions, blaming his shortcomings on Vince McMahon, which eventually lead to a storyline feud between the McMahons and Triple H.

Shawn Michaels returned on the June 12 edition of Raw and soon reunited with Triple H to reform D-Generation X, turning Triple H face once again.[8] DX defeated the Spirit Squad at Vengeance in a 5-on-2 handicap match.[65] They continued their feud with Vince McMahon, Shane McMahon and the Spirit Squad for several weeks. They then defeated the Spirit Squad again at Saturday Night's Main Event in a 5-on-2 Elimination match. They then again defeated the McMahons at SummerSlam, withstanding the attack of several handpicked WWE superstars by Vince McMahon.[64] At Unforgiven, D-Generation X overcame the odds once again, defeating The McMahons and ECW World Champion Big Show in a Hell in a Cell match. During the match, DX embarrassed Vince by shoving his face in between the Big Show's buttocks, and DX won when Triple H broke a sledgehammer over the shoulders of Vince McMahon after Michaels performed Sweet Chin Music on him.[66]

At Cyber Sunday during DX's storyline feud with Rated-RKO (Edge and Randy Orton), special guest referee Eric Bischoff allowed the illegal use of a weapon to give Rated-RKO the ill-gotten win.[66] At Survivor Series, DX got their revenge when their team defeated Edge and Orton's team in an Elimination Match with a clean sweep.[67] In January 2007, at New Year's Revolution, DX and Rated-RKO fought to a no-contest after Triple H suffered a legitimate torn right quadriceps (similar to the one he suffered in 2001 but in the other leg) fifteen minutes into the match.[68][69] A successful surgery was performed on January 9, 2007 by Dr. James Andrews.[68]

King of Kings (2007–2008)

Triple H performing his iconic ring entrance pose on the second rope following his 2007 comebackTriple H made his return in August 2007 at SummerSlam, where he defeated King Booker.[70] After his return, he won the WWE Championship at No Mercy after beating the newly named Champion, Randy Orton, making Triple H an eleven-time world champion.[71] In the same event, Triple H also defeated Umaga in his first title defense after Mr. McMahon declared his already-scheduled bout with Umaga, a title match.[72] McMahon then announced, Orton would receive a title rematch in a Last Man Standing match in the final match of the event, which Orton won after an RKO onto the announcement table, thus ending Triple H's sixth reign.[72] Triple H's title reign at No Mercy is the fourth shortest reign in WWE history, only lasting through the duration of the event.[73] In the Raw Elimination Chamber at No Way Out, Triple H gained a WWE Championship match at WrestleMania XXIV, by outlasting five other men.[74] However, at WrestleMania XXIV, Randy Orton retained after punting Triple H and pinning John Cena following Triple H's Pedigree on Cena.[75] A month later, at Backlash, Triple H won the title in a Fatal Four-Way Elimination match against Orton, Cena, and JBL, tying the record for most WWE Championship reigns (7) with The Rock.[76] Triple H then retained the title against Orton at Judgment Day in a Steel Cage match and again at One Night Stand in a Last Man Standing match.[77][78] Orton suffered a legitimate collarbone injury during the later match, thus ending the match prematurely.[79]

Move to SmackDown (2008-present)
On June 23, 2008 edition of Raw, Triple H was drafted to the SmackDown brand as a part of the 2008 WWE Draft, in the process making the WWE Championship exclusive to SmackDown.[80]

His commercial appearances include ads in May 2006 for Miller Lite where he debates "Man Laws" with the likes of Burt Reynolds, Eddie Griffin and Jerome Bettis.[93] That same month, he also appeared in a commercial for USA Network with Anthony Michael Hall, which cross-promoted Raw and Hall's show, The Dead Zone. Triple H vs. The Great Khali—Don't Sleep on This Match Just Yet

WTF. That was the explicit acronym that I am sure popped into every wrestling fan's head after The Great Khali won the Biggest Blockbuster of the Summer Battle Royal to earn a WWE title shot at Summerslam next month.

Yes, it was Khali, not Umaga, Mr. Kennedy, Big Show, Montel Vontavious Porter, or the ever so popular, Jeff Hardy. The Great Khali's win and title shot may not be very popular with fans, but I can't blame them.

After all, Khali is not exactly the Dean Malenko of the squared circle. Triple vs. The Great Khali can make or break Smackdown's crowded main event/upper midcard right now.

On one hand, Triple H winning at Summerslam would be a nice win, but extremely predictable. The Game has not exactly been booked as a human being the last few months, but rather more like The Terminator with a lot more charisma.

A win over Triple H would reestablish Khali as an unstoppable monster that can, at times, be fun to watch. Not only that, but I do not think WWE should pull the trigger on another Jeff Hardy vs. Triple H just yet.

If Khali were to win the WWE title, he could have an intriguing David and Goliath/Big dog vs. Underdog feud with Jeff Hardy overcoming the odds at the end. Here's the catch: Triple H would help Jeff Hardy beat Khali.

That could set up a huge feud between the two, with The Game stating Hardy could never beat the real world champion (even though he did last year at Armageddon). Triple H could also state that he was robbed by Khali and Ranjin Singh. That could lead to a blow off match with Khali en route to the money match with the Charismatic Enigma.

I am not trying to say The Great Khali would be the best World Champion, but he would certainly be believable and make Triple H look human for the first time in awhile.

Furthermore, Khali would be a serviceable transitional champion to drop the belt to Jeff Hardy or even the underrated Big Show. That way Triple H's only major loss on Smackdown! would be from a behemoth with the help of his manager. This would allow him to retain his heat.

In the long run, a Khali title win could help Smackdown! more than hurt the brand. I love Triple H, but going through heels like toilet paper is not the only way he should be booked. He needs a serious threat and if booked correctly, The Great Khali could be just that.

The Great Khali may never be the great WWE Champion, but with size, strength, and a serious streak, he would certainly be the right guy to help transition the belt to Jeff Hardy or another superstar not named Triple H.

Celebrity Birthdays, July 27

Happy Birthday to "MI: III" actor Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (1977), New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez (1975), WWE star Triple H (1969), Italian actress Maria Grazia Cucinotta (1969), singer Juliana Hatfield (1967), "Blue Collar" comedian Bill Engvall (1957), Broadway actress/singer Maureen McGovern (1949), and TV producer Norman Lear (1922).

Reviewing the July 25 edition of Smackdown!

Smackdown starts this week with the MVP Lounge. MVP’s guest is Jeff Hardy who, as usual, gets a huge ovation from the crowd.

I think Jeff Hardy has emerged in the WWE as one of the fan favorites over the past years. He just needs a title shot soon and his popularity level will only get higher. MVP then runs down Jeff Hardy’s troubles involving his recent suspension a few months back, and losing his Intercontinental Championship.

At first I was gaining more respect for the MVP character. Two weeks ago, he exchanged a few positive words with WWE Champion Triple H. But then MVP went even lower when he started to talk about Jeff Hardy loss of his house and even his dog. I personally don’t like the writers having the stars mention things in their personal lives on the show. Then they call Dr. Phil, who comes on the line and blames Jeff for being reckless and not caring about his career. I thought that was a little funny. Not too much though.

Jeff finally has enough and pushes MVP through the ropes and out of the ring. MVP then heads to the back, Jeff walks up the ramp, pauses at the top as the fans applaud. He raises his arms and salutes. Why hasn’t he been given at least a major title shot recently? He certainly deserves because he’s well over with the fans.

A biggest part of the summer battle royal is announced for later tonight. It will determine the number 1 contender for Triple H’s WWE Championship at WWE Summerslam.

The Battle Royal Participants are: Mr. Kennedy, Jeff Hardy, Big Show, MVP, Umaga, and the Great Khali.

Later, there was a match between WWE United States Champion Shelton Benjamin and Jimmy Wang Yang. I learned just how much the fans really don’t like Shelton Benjamin. A small reason is because he beat fan favorite Matt Hardy for the US Championship at the Great American Bash this past Sunday.

Benjamin grabbed the win and dominates throughout and hits an “indescribable” finisher. Benjamin, for some reason, doesn’t really impress me. Sure, he’s well built, athletic, and attended a great college at Minnesota. But, he’s never reallt gotten over very much with the fans. The writers really havent given him that much of a push as a major role in the WWE.

The biggest role he’s had in the past was with his former tag team partner Charlie Haas and during his run with the Intercontinental Championship a while back. Again, not too impressive.

Festus, later that night, went on to defeat Curt Hawkins. I think the character of Festus is absolutely awesome! He’s hilarious. Almost like the Incredible Hulk to a certain extent. He and Jesse better win some gold soon in order to keep him around for a while. Jesse and Festus make a very good (and very odd as well) tag team who I always look foreword to seeing in matches.

Hawkins and Ryder attacked Festus after the match. That part I thought was a little dry and boring. It’s going to be interesting to see how the new WWE Tag Team Champions are going to be used now that they are on top of the Smackdown! Tag Team world.

Vladimir Kozlov defeats Stevie Richards. Richards is very boring, hands down. I’ve been a wrestling fan for so many years and Stevie Richards is one of few wrestlers I think just needs to leave. He’s never going to get a push, he’s never intimidating, and he’s almost always used as in squash matches.

Vladimir Kozlov on the other hand could very well be a dominating superstar, he could be fighting other big stars such as the Great Khali, Umaga, and the Big Show if the writers give him a chance.

The Great Khali defeats Ken Kennedy, Jeff Hardy, MVP, Big Show, and Umaga to win the battle royal.
MVP is eliminated first. Big Show eliminates Umaga and then Kennedy. Khali fights the Big Show as Hardy slumps in the corner. Umaga comes back in and hits Big Show with the thumb. The referee orders him to the back for cheating I guess. Kennedy is eliminated by the Big Show.

Big Show is then eliminated by Jeff Hardy. The Great Khali gets the win by eliminating Jeff Hardy. Runjin Singh returns. Runjin is actually a rather interesting manager. Slightly annoying but interesting at the same time. Triple H comes out to confront Khali. This could turn into an interesting rivalry, if you want to call it a rivalry.

I am totally looking foreword to seeing Ron Killings come to Smackdown! He could work well with many of the stars on the show.

Michelle McCool defeats Maryse by getting maryse to tap in her leg submission. I thought that was a rather odd way to end a Divas match but I guess it worked. I thought it was cool to see Michelle McCool win the Divas Championship at the Great American Bash.

I kinda miss the Cruiserweight Championship. Even though there isn’t much of a Cruiserweight division anymore.

Brian Kendrick defeats Shannon Moore
Kendrick comes out with Ezekiel and cuts a promo. I thought it was stupid how they have a huge bodyguard kinda guy to protect such a little guy like Kendrick who is not even intimidating at all! Moore is initially over matched by the hyper aggressive Kendrick. Moore got distracted by Ezekiel during the match.

Kendrick hits a reverse backwards bulldog-type move for the win. That, I thought, was actually cool to see. Kendrick is very athletic but I thought it was dumb to have a huge body guard watch over such a little guy.

Up next is Edge's public apology to Vickie Guerrero. He comes out to the ring and calls out Vickie. She is wheeled to the stage by Chavo Guerrero. Vickie hugs Edge and tells him she forgives him. 9is it just me or is Vickie and Edge becoming the sickest looking couple in sports entertainment history? Totally gross and dumb. Edge and Lita looked better, and they were disgusting too.

Anyways…She then says that hell hatch no fury like a woman scorn. She tells Edge she has reinstated the Undertaker (WAHOO!!!) and that he will face him at SummerSlam in a Hell in a Cell match. She then announces that Edge will face Triple H right now in a Philadelphia Street Fight. (Their in Philadelphia this week by the way…)

Edge gets on the microphone and says that no matter what he gets thrown into, he still loves Vickie Guerrero. (yeah whatever…lets move on!)

The following was not on Smackdown!, it was a dark match used after the tapings:

Triple H defeats Edge in a Philadelphia Street Fight to retain the WWE Championship.
Triple H starts out fast by smashing Edge's head into the announcers table. Edge reverses and throws Triple H into the ring steps. Another reversal as Triple H smashes Edge into the announcers table. He whips Edge into Jim Ross. Back in the ring, Triple H brings in a sledgehammer. (always awesome to see Hunter’s favorite toy!)

Edge blocks the sledgehammer and knocks Triple H to the mat. He gets two chairs and sets up the concerto. (my teeth cringe every time I see that attempted) Triple H gets out of the way and hits Edge in the face with the sledgehammer and pins him for the win. Smackdown has definitely gotten a lot better now that Triple H is running the show. I can tell he is going to be the Champion for a while.

Smackdown was pretty good this week. Triple H is a part of it now, which means it might get even better with him and the Undertaker on the same show.

Undertaker returns at Summerslam!!!

Gathering up her closest celebrity pals, Kate Beckinsale celebrated her 35th birthday (which happens to be today, July 26th) with a fancy shindig at the Thompson Hotel in Beverly Hills on Friday night (July 25).

The whole group was shuttled in and out by a heavy duty security team, with Dustin Hoffman’s driver reportedly nearly hitting a pedestrian as their car made a quick getaway.

Meanwhile, in related news, it was just announced that the Kate Beckinsale-starring thriller “Whiteout” is scheduled to be released in theaters on April 24, 2009 by Dark Castle/Warner Bros.

ICICI Bank net slips 6%

Mumbai, July 26: ICICI Bank, the country’s largest private bank, today reported a 6 per cent fall in net profit for the first quarter ended June 30 at Rs 728 crore as rising interest rates gouged the valuations of its trading and government securities portfolio.

The bank had earned a net profit of Rs 775 crore in the first quarter of the previous fiscal. The bank said the sharp increase in interest rates and adverse market conditions during the quarter had a negative impact of Rs 594 crore on its trading and statutory liquidity ratio securities portfolio and its treasury income.

Analysts had estimated the bank’s net profits in the region of Rs 750-800 crore. In its core operations of borrowing and lending, ICICI Bank performed well with a net interest income of Rs 2,090 crore, a 41 per cent growth over the corresponding figure of Rs 1,479 crore in the previous year.

The bank added that its fee income increased 37 per cent to Rs 1,958 crore in the first quarter from Rs 1,428 crore.

The quarter also saw the bank’s non-performing assets (NPAs) swelling to Rs 8,511.36 crore from Rs 5,292.04 crore in the year-ago period. Net NPAs leapt 50 per cent to Rs 4,033.57 crore from Rs 2,674.19 crore in the year-ago period.
