Saravana stores fire: Major fire in Saravana Store, Ranganathan Street

Chennai Sep-1. A major fire broke out in Saravana Stores Ranganathan Street, T Nagar in the wee hours of the day in the third floor of the building.

The incident was reported to the fire services and eight fire tenders have been rushed to the spot. Due to narrow carriage way the fire tenders could not near the place of accident and one by one the tenders are getting in. Snorkel has been pressed into service. According to the fire control room, no casualities have been reported yet.

Passersby comment that the new fly over has added its owes in dousing the fire as the narrow carriage way on the sides of the fly over have restricted the movement of fire tenders.

The cause of the fire is alleged to have been the short circuit and damages are yet to be assessed. Till the time of going to the press the fire has not been doused yet. (Agencies)
