WWE SmackDown! Results

WWE SmackDown! Results - July 25, 2008

- A video promo hits revisiting the events last week on SmackDown where Edge and Alicia Fox were caught having a secret affair on video and Vickie’s tantrum in the ring.

- The SmackDown opening video hits; it’s been altered slightly. Jim Ross and Mick Foley welcome us to the show

- JR and Foley recap of what happened at The Great American Bash when Edge “accidentally” speared Vickie Guerrero, Foley says that Vickie will make an appearance tonight. They send us to MVP’s VIP Lounge.

- MVP does the typical VIP Lounge introduction. MVP welcomes his guest; Jeff Hardy – he gets a huge ovaiton. MVP plugs the Battle Royal later tonight involving Mr. Kennedy, Umaga, The Great Khali and Big Show and plugs himself as the self-proclaimed odds-on favourite. Jeff brings up how he hasn’t seen MVP win a match since he lost the United States Title; MVP also brings up how Jeff has made some mistakes including his 60-day suspension and his tragic house accident prior to WrestleMania. MVP says that because of Jeff’s behaviour cost his dog his life and is therefore ruining his career and because of that he will never be WWE Champion. This seems like a slight shoot segment. Jeff shoves MVP out of the ring, fans chant “Hardy” loudly…JR and Foley don’t say anything basically after that. Very good segment, but seemed a bit emotional.

- A promo for SummerSlam airs.

- Shelton Benjamin makes his way out to the ring. JR and Foley recap the match Benjamin had with Matt Hardy at the Great American Bash. Benjamin gets on the mic and basically cuts a promo about himself. Jimmy Wang Yang’s music hits and we have ourselves a match.

- NON-TITLE MATCH: JIMMY WANG YANG VS. SHELTON BENJAMIN

It’s a basic “when-he-was-improperly-used-in-ECW” Benjamin squash, Benjamin hits aggressive moves early on and Yang hits some high-flying moves. Finish saw Benjamin hit his finisher on Yang after Yang miss a wheel kick.

Winner: Shelton Benjamin

- Edge is shown backstage with The Edgeheads, Edge tries to apologise but they say they don’t need one, Vickie does. They leave for their match and Edge wishes them good luck.

- The Edgeheads come out to the ring and it’s apparently Curt Hawkins in singles action, his opponent….(Biscuits & Gravy!!) Festus.

- FESTUS VS. CURT HAWKINS

Another short match which didn’t last 2 minutes. Jesse attacks Ryder when he attempts to help Hawkins. Festus hits his flapjack finisher for the win.

Winner: Festus

After the match Hawkins & Ryder give Festus a double-DDT, obviously he’s helpless.

- A video package highlighting Generation Rescue and Jenny McCarthy’s partnership with WWE.

- JR and Foley hype the main event Battle Royal for who will face Triple H at Summerslam.

- Edge is shown backstage talking to Alicia Fox, there is a shot of Bam Neely behind Edge possibly gearing up for an attack. Nothing happens.

- Stevie Richards (the hometown hero) makes his way to the ring to fight Vladimir Kozlov in a rematch from two weeks ago.

- STEVIE RICHARDS VS. VLADIMIR KOZLOV

Fans are behind Richards (it doesn’t sound so, but they are…I think). Richards is able to get in some good offensive moves, much like two weeks ago. Kozlov gets the win with the running headbutt. 3 squash matches in one night?…It seems it.

Winner: Vladimir Kozlov

After the match, Kozlov shouts some gibberish Russian to JR and Foley. Apparently he is wanting better competition. It’ll be hopefully sorted next week. JR and Foley further hype the main event.

- The same video package which was played at the beginning of the show is played again. Any need for this twice?

- The “Biggest Blockbuster Of The Summer” Battle Royal is apparently next…what’s the point of it being the main event then?

- Mr. Kennedy is out first (he does his usual introduction), The Great Khali is next with Ranjin Singh (when was the last time we saw him?), MVP is next sporting slightly differentiated attire, Umaga follows, Jeff Hardy then shortly afterwards getting the biggest reaction and finally Big Show getting a pretty warm reaction.

- BATTLE ROYAL: Jeff Hardy vs. The Great Khali vs. MVP vs. Umaga vs. Big Show vs. Mr. Kennedy

Hardy immediately blasts after MVP who bails under the ropes, Poetry in Motion done on Khali by Hardy and Kennedy. Big Show side slams Umaga – pretty impressive. Umaga then takes down both Show and Khali with high kicks! Umaga is standing tall as we head to a commercial break.

Back from commercial, Hardy hits the Whisper In The Wind on Umaga. Hardy and MVP then battle as Big Show goes after Khali and Umaga. Hardy then eliminates MVP. Big Show and Umaga have a staredown, which ends up with Big Show eliminating Umaga next. Kennedy quickly goes to work on Show, but ends up getting eliminated as well.

Khali and Show start to brawl; Khali takes Show down with a chop. Big Show then shortly afterwards chokeslams Khali. Umaga then hits the Samoan Spike on Show “illegally”.

Jeff Hardy goes for a high-flying move on Show, Show catches Hardy in a headscissors, attempts to throw Hardy over, but Hardy eliminates Big Show! Hardy then hits a Swanton on Khali! Shortly afterwards Khali hits the big chop on Hardy, followed shortly by his elimination. *Groans*

Winner: The Great Khali

- They show replays of the match as Triple H comes down to the ring. Trips and Khali have a staredown, Khali leaves the ring signalling that he wants to win the title.

- A promo for R-Truth is aired. Woo, Ron Killings is coming to SmackDown!!! His gimmick is looking to be a face.

- Michelle McCool comes out to the ring with the new Divas Title, her opponent: Maryse.

- NON-TITLE MATCH: MICHELLE MCCOOL VS. MARYSE

Average Divas match, nothing special to report. Very short as well, surprised? McCool attempts a Moonsault but lands on her feet; surprising actually. Finish saw Michelle apply her submission move to which Maryse taps out.

Winner: Michelle McCool

- This weeks “From The Vault” Match………Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero from The Great American Bash 2004. Hold on, I’m confused – I thought it was supposed to be for a previous PPV of the upcoming one!? It should be a previous SummerSlam match…so many things not making sense today. Anyways, Rey Mysterio wins (as I’m sure you probably don’t need to know).

- A promo for Maria airs, she’s coming to SmackDown next week.

- The Raw Rebound: it shows Batista putting himself in charge, and making the World Title Match between him and Punk, it then shows Kane’s and Batista’s brawl. It shows clips of the match, where JBL interferes causing the DQ finish and Cena’s inadvertent strike to Batista and their soon-to-be rivalry…*groans*.

- JR and Foley hype the SummerSlam card; only one match and it’s Triple H vs. Khali – hardly worth hyping.

- Backstage, it shows Chavo pushing Vickie Guerrero along with Bam Neely. They head towards her office…

- Another promo for SummerSlam airs.

- Edge and Bam Neely are backstage, Bam says Vickie’s in her office. Edge says he needs to apologise to Vickie and Bam says he should go find her then.

- Brian Kendrick makes his way to the ring with Ezekiel (I’ve spelt it right this time!) Kendrick gets on the mic and cuts a promo saying that he’s the fastest and most intelligent wrestler. He then hypes Ezekiel. Shannon Moore is his opponent.

- SHANNON MOORE VS. BRIAN KENDRICK

Typical Cruiserweight match, just quick moves all around basically. ANOTHER short match. Kendrick gets the win with the Sliced Bread…or apparently it’s known as “The Kendrick” now…please explain this.

Winner: Brian Kendrick

- Vickie and Chavo Guerrero are backstage, Bam Neely then arrives saying that Edge wants to apologise but he also wants an apology addressed to him, in the ring.

- Edge makes his way to the ring, he receives a 60-40 reaction (the 40% are cheering). Edge gets on the mic and says that he wanted to apologise to his wife, Victoria – was that intended? Edge tells Vickie to come out to the ring, and she does with Chavo and Bam. The crowd boos as they appear on the stage. She takes ages getting into the ring, teasing her injured neck. Edge and Vickie just stare at each other, Edge gets down on one knee and says that what he did was horrible. Edge says that the video didn’t show him trying to say “no” to Alicia repeatedly, he says that he didn’t leave because he wanted to make the wedding perfect.

- Edge says he can’t live without Vickie’s “love”. Vickie says she understands, and they hug in the ring. Edge leans in for a kiss, but Vickie pulls away and she says that hell hath no fury over a woman scorned. Vickie says she did something he might not like, she reinstated The Undertaker! The crowd goes nuts. Edge looks very displeased.

- Edge says that when they go on their honeymoon, Triple H and Undertaker will destroy each other and Edge will reclaim the WWE Title. Vickie says that she’s already scheduled a match between Edge and Undertaker for SummerSlam – Edge is upset by this. Even more so when she announces a Hell In A Cell Match between the two!! The show then comes to a close as Edge is left horrified in the ring and Vickie laughing.
