Angelina Jolie To Put On Weight For Film Role?

Angelina Jolie has reportedly been ordered to put on weight for a role in the forthcoming sequel to The Thomas Crown Affair.

The actress is set to star in the follow-up to the 1999 remake alongside Pierce Brosnan - but film bosses are said to have ordered her to pile on the pounds in preparation for the role. Jolie sparked fears for her health last year when she became extremely thin - blaming the weight loss on the emotional distress she suffered following the death of her mother Marcheline Bertrand in January 2007.

However, producers of the new Thomas Crown Affair movie are hoping Jolie - who gave birth to twins earlier this month - will be back to full health before filming starts.

A source tells British newspaper the Daily Mirror, "Ideally they want Angelina to put on two stone for the role. It is going to be very physically demanding, which is why they want her to carry the extra weight… They don't want a reprise of what happened with Wanted, where she was fainting and they had to take her costumes in."

Rosario Dawson Takes Acting Break To Push Politics

Actress Rosario Dawson is taking a career break this fall so she can travel across America convincing the Latin community to vote in November's presidential election. The Sin City star, who is of Puerto Rican and Cuban descent, was in Washington D.C. on Tuesday speaking on behalf of her non-profit organization Voto Latino.

And she reveals she'll set acting to one side later this year to make sure everyone who is eligible to vote, does.

Dawson's road trip will include stops at both the Republican and Democratic conventions.

The 28-year-old star, who has movies Eagle Eye and Seven Pounds set for release around the time of the election, says, "I decided I'm not going to be working at all through the fall. We're targeting the Latin youth vote. There's 18 million [people who] are eligible but we are not showing that up in votes. So our numbers aren't counting."

One cheese sandwich = 5 deep fried chicken pieces

London: One scrumptious cheese sandwich can contain almost 15g of saturated fat –equal to five pieces of deep fried chicken, says a new research.

Dietician Sian Porter found cheddar and pickle sarnie from sandwich chain Eat contained 14.6g of saturated fat. Pret a Manger’s buttie had 14.3g, Tesco’s had 13.7g and one from Sainsbury’s contained 13g.

The recommended daily limit for women is 20g, and 30g for men.

“We don’t realise how much saturated fat a cheese sandwich can contain,” The Sun quoted Porter, as saying. Saturated fat affects cholesterol, which can cause heart disease.

Jim Winship of the British Sandwich Association said: “It’s ludicrous. Other foods have much higher fat levels.”

Tobacco Plants Can Become An Important Ally In Fight With Cancer

Who would have thought that plants which produce tobacco can become a real help in the fight against cancer? According to the Evening Bulletin, researchers have discovered that the tobacco plant can help cure a specific type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Monday, scientists at the Stanford University School of Medicine in California published a study in a National Academy of Science journal, explaining that tobacco plants can grow antibodies which will fight cancer. The researchers tried to create antibodies for follicular B-cell lymphoma which is thought to have no cure. The “B-cell” helps the body in its fight against bacteria and other pathogens that can lead to diseases.


16 patients with B-cell lymphoma took part in the study and each patient had his own personalized vaccine as individuals have unique cancer antibody. About 70% of the patients had an immune response and 47% of them had the response the scientists were hoping for. Another important fact is that there were limited side effects.

“This would be a way to treat cancer without side effects. The idea is to marshal the body's immune system to fight cancer. We know that if you get the immune system revved up, it can attack and kill cancer,” said Dr. Ronald Levy, senior author of the study, reported the Evening Bulletin.

About 16,000 people or more are diagnosed every year with B-cell lymphoma. The patients are monitored by doctors, but chemotherapy is not used. According to Dr. Ronald Levy, not only cancer patients can benefit from the study.

“There are lots of diseases for which proteins are needed. This vaccine production technology, if proven effective, can also be used for hormone injections, enzyme replacement and to produce monoclonal antibodies,” said Dr. Levy.

Even scientist considered ironic the fact that a plant which is linked to cancer can actually fight cancer.

“It's pretty cool technology, and it's really ironic that you would make a treatment for cancer out of tobacco. That appealed to me, said Dr. Levy.

The study was funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health and the tobacco plants and research technology were provided by Large Scale Biology Corp., located in Vacaville, California.

Shilpa Shetty in India's Big Brother

MUMBAI (Reuters) - Shilpa Shetty will be a part of India’s take on the reality TV show "Celebrity Big Brother" which the Bollywood actress had won last year, a channel spokesperson said.

Shetty "has been roped in" for ''Bigg Boss'' on the newly launched television channel Colors, Sonia Huria said without specifying her role in the show.

But sources close to the 33-year-old actress said she had agreed to host the second season of the reality show in India and would begin shooting for it soon.

In January last year, Shetty beat 13 other "Celebrity Big Brother" contestants, including television personality Jade Goody and some other housemates whose treatment of Shetty generated thousands of complaints, dominated headlines and even prompted a sponsor of the show to pull out.

The actress was called a "dog" on the show and some housemates refused to learn her name, referring to her as “the Indian” and "Poppadom". But Shetty played down allegations that she had been the victim of racial abuse.

"Bigg Boss", which first aired on the Sony channel in November 2006, follows the international format of the reality TV show. Participants from Bollywood and India’s television industry spend several days cooped up in a specially-designed house under 24-hour surveillance, with no access to telephones or television.

Each week, one of them is voted out.

The first season of "Bigg Boss," hosted by Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi, was only a moderate success even though the show’s producers had hoped to capitalize on the country’s obsession with celebrities.

Rajesh Kamat, CEO of Colors channel, said the second season of the show would premiere on the channel in August this year.

Shahid Kapoor’s sitting pretty

The actor slams critics and, in a chat with SHUBHA SHETTY-SAHA, says he plans to be a part of Bollywood for 20 more years

Post Kismat Konnection, Shahid Kapur slams the critics, claiming that the film has had a ‘bigger opening’ than Jab We Met. If that’s true, then Shahid would have achieved a hat-trick of hits with two of his previous films — Vivaah and Jab We Met — sending the cash registers ringing.

However, critics are not too happy with Kismat Konnection. Speaking about this, Shahid says, “I do films for audiences. There are certain subjects that appeal to the audiences more than the critics. I am never really going to make a film for an individual, or to please a reviewer. A critic, after all, is just an individual.”

The actor also insists that his ‘teeny bopper image’ doesn’t bother him. “I plan to be around for 20 more years. I can’t undo the fact that I am just 27. Youngsters connect with me and I must use that to my advantage,” he says.

However, when we remind him that young actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan and Harman Baweja have come in off late, he says, “If people like me they will come to see me, irrespective of who is around. It doesn’t matter how old you are. Audiences have an individual relationship with each actor. You have to build that relationship where they are curious to see your next film.

He adds, “I watched Saawariya and Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na and I think both Ranbir and Imran are very good. I am yet to watch Love Story 2050.”

Coming back to Kismat Konnection, Shahid says, “Kismat… was a much larger release than Jab We Met. The perception that it has not done well is created because of the reviews. In due course, the figures will start coming out and you will know. My earlier film, Vivaah got terrible reviews but it ran for 48 weeks. Audiences don’t bother about reviews, beyond a point. It is more about audiences waiting for your film to release,” he says.

Some critics also mentioned that Vidya Balan looked older than him in the film. Will he be careful next time?

“Absolutely! I take all criticism very seriously. I will work harder next time,” he says.
So does that mean he will choose a younger looking heroine next time? “That’s not my call. It’s the director’s call. I don’t think I am in a position to decide who should be cast opposite me,” signs off Shahid.
