Trade Unions have gone on strike over anomalies in the Sixth Pay Commission implementation. Trade unions have alleged that the Sixth Pay Commission is heavily tilted in favour of officers and discriminates against an ordinary employee of the central government.
Trade unions allege that they are hurt by Union Progressive Alliance government's anti-people policies.
The strike has affected the whole work at most central government offices including airport that were hit hardest. Several flights from Delhi were cancelled due to strike.
Six flights to Kolkata were already cancelled by 10 in the morning giving passengers some harrowing time.
Airport employees tried to do everything to disrupt flights by staging dharnas at domestic, International and Cargo terminals at the airport demanding a better pay and job security of the AAI employees in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Nagpur airports.
Communist party has announced to support the strike call. According to media reports, strike could affect banking, insurance, aviation, railways and other sectors of life.
Trade unions said that call has been given against increasing anti-worker trade and policies. Eight trade unions and over 40 labour unions along with airport authority and railways employees have announced their support for strike.
