There's a lot to be said for the company you keep, which is no doubt why reigning American Idol champ David Cook has opted to team up with a Grammy-winning producer for his forthcoming solo album.
Joining an already rock-credentialed roster of talent that has lended a hand on Cook's untitled album, due sometime this November, is producer Rob Cavallo, whose résumé boasts collaborations with Green Day, Kid Rock, Eric Clapton, My Chemical Romance, Goo Goo Dolls and the Dave Matthews Band.
Cook has been recording and cowriting tracks for the album in between stops on the American Idols Live! Tour, which wraps up Sept. 13 in Tulsa. Last month, he told Billboard he already had seven tracks prepared and was looking to build up to 20, choosing among those which would make it on the album.
In addition to Cavallo, Cook has worked with Collective Soul's Ed Roland and Our Lady Peace's Raine Maida, among others.
While no specific release date, save for the month, has been announced for Cook's debut, what is for sure is that this fall will mark yet another battle of the Davids, with Cook and Idol runner-up David Archuleta expected to drop their albums on the same day.
